Sparrow criterion

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005500

A criterion for optical resolution stating that two point sources are just resolved when the dip between their intensity peaks disappears. This occurs when the second derivative of the intensity distribution at the midpoint between the two peaks is zero. The Sparrow criterion generally indicates a slightly higher resolution than Rayleigh's criterion.
