SPS
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005558
A Standby Power System designed to provide near-instantaneous backup electricity to a critical load during a utility power failure. An SPS detects a power outage and switches the load to a secondary source, typically a battery and inverter, within milliseconds. Unlike an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a true online SPS has a brief transfer time during which power is interrupted, specified by standards like IEC 62040-3.
