Steep-slope roof
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005641
A roof with a slope steeper than 3:12, meaning more than three inches of rise for every twelve inches of horizontal run, which is the roofing industry's usual dividing line from low-slope roofs. Coverings such as asphalt shingles, tile, slate, and metal panels shed water rather than forming a continuous waterproof membrane. OSHA fall protection rules draw the line higher, defining a steep roof as one above 4:12.
