Superalloy

A metallic alloy engineered to provide exceptional mechanical strength, resistance to thermal creep, surface stability, and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. These alloys have a base element of nickel, cobalt, or nickel-iron, with additions of elements like chromium, tungsten, and aluminum. Superalloys are specified for components in the hot sections of gas turbines, such as blades and vanes, where operating temperatures can exceed 1000°C.
