Transmodulation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006151
The conversion of a signal from one modulation format to another without changing its content, as when a cable headend turns QPSK satellite channels into QAM channels for distribution. The same word is also used for cross-modulation, the transfer of an interfering signal's modulation onto a wanted carrier through nonlinear distortion in an amplifier or mixer. Headend equipment that performs the first kind is called a transmodulator.
