Trub

The sediment that settles out of wort during the brewing process, consisting primarily of coagulated proteins, hop solids, and other insoluble materials. This material is separated from the clear wort before fermentation to prevent off-flavors and improve beer stability. Trub is typically removed after the boil and cooling stages.
