Unport
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006363
To uncover a port so that fluid or gas can flow through it, as when a moving piston or spool slides past the edge of the opening. In a piston-ported two-stroke engine the descending piston unports the exhaust port first and then the transfer ports, letting burnt gas leave and fresh charge enter. The opposite action, in which the rising piston covers the ports and seals the cylinder for compression, is called covering the ports.
