Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006371
A mine ventilation shaft through which contaminated air is expelled from the underground workings to the surface. It forms the outlet of a ventilation circuit, with fresh air entering through a corresponding downcast shaft. Large fans, located either on the surface or underground, create the pressure difference that drives the airflow, drawing out dust, gases, and heat generated by mining operations.
