Upset

To increase the cross-sectional area of a metal workpiece by shortening its length through compressive force. This process is typically performed on hot metal, causing it to deform plastically and bulge outwards. Upsetting is frequently used in forging to create heads on bolts or to thicken sections of a shaft.
