Wastegate
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007363
A bypass valve in a turbocharged engine that regulates the amount of exhaust gas directed to the turbine. This control prevents overspeeding of the turbocharger and maintains a desired boost pressure in the intake manifold. It opens to divert excess exhaust flow away from the turbine, typically actuated by a pressure differential or an electronic control unit.
