Microscopic solid or liquid particles suspended in the atmosphere, often referred to as particulate matter (PM). These particles can originate from natural sources like dust and pollen, or from human activities such as industrial emissions and vehicle exhaust. Their size, measured in micrometers, determines how deeply they can penetrate the respiratory system and their potential health impacts.
