Back pay

Compensation awarded to an employee for earnings lost due to an employer's wrongful action, such as an illegal termination, discrimination, or failure to pay proper wages. This payment is a common remedy in employment practices liability claims and is intended to restore the employee to the financial position they would have been in without the unlawful conduct. The award is calculated from the date of the adverse action to the date of the judgment or settlement.
