Concurrent causation
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000890
A doctrine in property insurance that applies when a loss is caused by two or more perils occurring at the same time, where at least one peril is covered and one is excluded. If the covered peril is considered a proximate cause of the loss, coverage may be provided even if an excluded peril also contributed. This doctrine has been modified or limited by anti-concurrent causation clauses in many modern policies.
