"Going and coming" rule

A legal principle in workers' compensation that states an employee is not considered to be in the course of employment while traveling to or from work. Therefore, injuries sustained during a regular commute are generally not compensable under workers' compensation. Exceptions exist, such as when the employer provides transportation or the commute involves a special errand for the employer.
