Alienation of affection

A tort action that allows a spouse to sue a third party for interfering with the marital relationship, leading to the loss of affection and consortium from their spouse. This claim asserts that the third party intentionally caused the breakdown of the marriage. Only a few U.S. states still recognize this cause of action.
