Alternative contingent remainder
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-000479
A type of future interest in property where two or more contingent remainders are created, but only one can ultimately vest. Each remainder is dependent on a different condition precedent, and the fulfillment of one condition precludes the fulfillment of the others. For example, a grant to A for life, then to B if B survives A, but if B does not survive A, then to C.
