Approach the witness

To request permission from the judge to physically move from the counsel table toward the witness stand during a trial or hearing. This action is necessary when an attorney needs to show the witness a document, a piece of physical evidence, or an exhibit for identification. The presiding judge has the discretion to grant or deny the request based on courtroom procedure and decorum.
