Bilateral divorce

A divorce decree issued by a court that has personal jurisdiction over both spouses. This type of divorce is generally recognized as valid in all states under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution. It contrasts with an ex parte divorce, where jurisdiction exists over only one spouse.
