Collateral trust certificate

A debt security issued by a company and secured by stocks, bonds, or other securities that the issuer deposits with a trustee for the holders' benefit. Holders are secured creditors with a claim on the pledged securities if the issuer defaults, not owners of them. Holding companies commonly use such obligations to borrow against the securities of their subsidiaries.
