Compounding a crime

The offense committed when a person, knowing that a crime has been committed, accepts money or other consideration in exchange for agreeing not to prosecute or inform on the offender. This act obstructs justice by preventing the legal system from holding criminals accountable. It is a distinct offense from being an accessory after the fact.
