Decedent

An individual who has passed away, especially when referring to the person whose estate is being administered or whose will is being probated. The decedent's wishes regarding their property are typically expressed in a will or determined by intestacy laws if no valid will exists. The legal process of settling a decedent's estate is known as probate.
