Declarant

A person who makes a statement, declaration, or assertion, especially one that is offered as evidence in a legal proceeding. In the context of hearsay rules, the declarant is the individual whose out-of-court statement is being introduced. The credibility of the declarant's statement is often a key factor in its admissibility.
