Equal Rights Amendment
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001893
A proposed amendment to the United States Constitution providing that equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged on account of sex. Congress sent it to the states in 1972 with a ratification deadline that was extended to 1982; thirty-eight states have now ratified, the most recent being Virginia in 2020, but the deadline had passed and the Archivist of the United States has not certified it, so its status is disputed.
