Equal Pay Act

A United States federal law enacted in 1963 as an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act, prohibiting sex-based wage discrimination. It requires that men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work, defined as jobs requiring equal skill, effort, and responsibility, and performed under similar working conditions. Wage differentials are permitted if based on seniority, merit, quantity or quality of production, or any factor other than sex.
