Civil Rights Act of 1964

A landmark federal law in the United States that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Its provisions forbid discrimination in public accommodations, federally funded programs, and employment. Title VII of the Act specifically addresses equal employment opportunity and established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to enforce its provisions.
