The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit discrimination against an applicant or employee based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. The EEOC investigates complaints of discrimination, mediates disputes, and files lawsuits against employers when necessary. It was established by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
