Extradition

The formal process by which one sovereign state delivers an individual located within its territory to another sovereign state that has requested the individual's return. This occurs for the purpose of facing criminal charges or serving a sentence. Extradition proceedings are typically initiated through diplomatic channels and require a valid extradition treaty or agreement.
