Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Funeral Rule

A consumer protection regulation enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that governs the sale of funeral goods and services. The Funeral Rule requires funeral providers to give consumers an itemized price list for goods and services, allowing them to select only the items they want. First issued in 1984, the rule also prohibits funeral providers from misrepresenting legal requirements or requiring the purchase of a casket for direct cremations.
