Bait and switch

A deceptive sales practice where a seller advertises a product at a very low price to attract customers, but then disparages the advertised item or claims it is unavailable, and attempts to persuade customers to purchase a more expensive alternative. This practice is illegal under consumer protection laws, such as those enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
