Foster child

A minor who has been removed from their biological parents' or legal guardians' custody by a court order and placed under the care of a state agency, living temporarily with a foster family or in a group home. These children are under the legal responsibility of the state, which oversees their well-being and seeks a permanent placement. Their legal status is distinct from adopted children.
