Foster care

A system in which a minor who has been removed from their biological parents' custody is placed with a temporary family or in a group home. This arrangement is overseen by state or local child welfare agencies, which retain legal custody of the child. The goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment while efforts are made toward reunification with the biological family or other permanent placement.
