Guardian ad litem

A person appointed by a court to represent the best interests of a minor or an incapacitated person in a legal proceeding. This individual is not a party to the lawsuit but acts as an officer of the court to protect the legal rights of the ward. Their role is distinct from that of a legal counsel, as they focus on the ward's welfare rather than just their legal position.
