Hostile work environment

A form of workplace harassment where unwelcome conduct, based on a protected characteristic, is so severe or pervasive that it alters the conditions of the victim's employment and creates an abusive working atmosphere. This conduct must be objectively offensive and subjectively perceived as abusive by the victim. Federal law, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, prohibits such environments.
