Abusive discharge

The termination of an employee's employment in violation of public policy, even in an at-will employment state. This exception to at-will employment protects employees from being fired for reasons such as refusing to commit an illegal act, reporting illegal conduct by the employer, or exercising a legal right. Claims for abusive discharge are typically brought as wrongful termination lawsuits.
