Impound

To take property or funds into legal custody by a court order or other legal authority, holding them until a matter is resolved. Law enforcement may impound a vehicle used in a crime or driven without proper registration or insurance. Courts can also order the impoundment of documents as evidence or of funds subject to a legal dispute, placing them under the control of a third party.
