Infamous crime

A crime considered to be of a particularly disgraceful or dishonorable nature, historically carrying severe penalties and often leading to the loss of civil rights. While the term is less common in modern statutes, it traditionally referred to felonies or crimes involving moral turpitude. The Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution mentions infamous crimes in the context of grand jury indictment.
