Inurement

The process by which the assets or income of a non-profit organization benefit a private individual, such as an insider or board member. This practice is generally prohibited for tax-exempt organizations, as it violates the principle that their resources must be used for public or charitable purposes. The Internal Revenue Service scrutinizes transactions for evidence of private inurement.
