A legal question or issue that has become irrelevant or academic because the underlying facts or circumstances have changed, rendering a judicial decision on it without practical effect. Such a point is no longer subject to a live controversy that a court can resolve. Courts generally decline to rule on moot points due to the requirement for an actual case or controversy.
