Describing a matter or dispute that is appropriate for a court to hear and decide, meaning it presents an actual controversy capable of judicial resolution. A case is justiciable if it is not hypothetical, advisory, or moot, and if the parties have standing to sue. Courts generally avoid issuing advisory opinions on non-justiciable issues.
