Standing

The legal right of a party to bring a lawsuit or appear in court, based on having a sufficient stake in the outcome of the case. To establish standing, a plaintiff must demonstrate an actual or imminent injury, a causal connection between the injury and the defendant's conduct, and that a favorable court decision would likely redress the injury. This requirement prevents courts from issuing advisory opinions.
