Necessity defense

A legal justification for committing an otherwise unlawful act when faced with an immediate and unavoidable threat of harm, where the harm caused by the act is less than the harm avoided. This defense requires that there were no reasonable legal alternatives to avert the danger. It is often applied in situations involving natural disasters or medical emergencies.
