Zone of danger rule

A legal principle in tort law that allows a plaintiff to recover damages for emotional distress if they were placed in immediate risk of physical harm by the defendant's negligent conduct. The plaintiff must have been within the area where physical injury was foreseeable. This rule limits recovery for bystander emotional distress.
