Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, a tort claim alleging that a defendant's extreme and outrageous conduct caused severe emotional harm to the plaintiff. To succeed, the plaintiff must prove that the defendant acted intentionally or recklessly, and that the distress suffered was so severe that no reasonable person should be expected to endure it. This tort is often difficult to prove due to the high standard of outrageousness required.
