Relating to or consisting of money. This adjective is used in legal contexts to describe interests, losses, damages, or gains that can be valued in monetary terms, as opposed to non-monetary considerations like emotional distress or reputational harm. For instance, pecuniary damages in a lawsuit are calculated to compensate for quantifiable financial losses, such as lost wages, medical expenses, or property damage.
