Permanent resident

An individual who has been granted the right to live and work permanently in a country where they are not a citizen. In the United States, this status is commonly referred to as holding a 'green card.' Permanent residents enjoy many of the same rights as citizens, but cannot vote in federal elections or hold certain government positions.
