Conditional resident

An individual granted lawful permanent resident status in the United States for a two-year period, typically based on marriage to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or through certain investor programs. Before the two years expire, the conditional resident must file a petition to remove the conditions and obtain full permanent resident status. Failure to remove conditions can result in loss of residency.
