Protest

A formal declaration made by a party to a legal proceeding or transaction, indicating disagreement with an action or decision. This declaration preserves the party's rights to challenge the action later or to prevent waiver of a claim. In contract law, a party might protest a breach to reserve its right to sue for damages.
