A Latin phrase meaning 'something for something,' referring to an exchange of goods or services, where one transfer is contingent upon the other. In employment law, it often describes a type of sexual harassment where an employee's job benefits are made contingent on their submission to unwelcome sexual advances. This form of harassment is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
