Tangible employment action

A change in employment status that causes a direct economic detriment to an employee. This includes hiring, firing, failing to promote, reassignment with significantly different responsibilities, or a decision causing a change in benefits. Such actions are often relevant in proving employer liability for supervisor harassment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
