To take possession of property, often by legal authority, against the will of the owner. This act can involve physical apprehension of a person or the confiscation of items, such as evidence in a criminal investigation or assets in a civil judgment. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures.
